So you’ve decided to get some new curtains or blinds for your home. You’ve jumped online, searched on Google, and found a long list of companies. Who do you choose?
As well as liking the look and feel of the product, here are a number of other things to consider, which should help decide whether a company is reputable and right for you.
What guarantee is offered on the blinds?
Knowing what guarantee you receiving is crucial. What does it cover? What is exempt? A number of companies have a conditional guarantee, and some charge a service fee or only cover part of the product. Make sure you know HOW long you’re covered and WHAT you’re covered for. You are paying for the product so you should be looked after accordingly.
What other terms and conditions are there?
Some companies offer amazing prices which seem too good to be true. And they usually are. Chances are there are hidden extras and charges, meaning you pay just as much (or more) than other companies. Things such as ‘measuring fees’, ‘old blind removal’, ‘processing fees’ and who knows what else. Read the fine print and ask questions! And if it IS really cheap, you may get stuck with an inferior product.
When is payment required?
In the blinds industry, paying after completion of the job is quite acceptable. Some businesses might ask you to pay a 20% deposit which is also fine, but you shouldn’t need to make a large upfront payment. If you’re asked to pay 50% or even 100% upfront, tread carefully. If there’s a problem with installation or delivery, it’s a lot harder to get money back after you’ve paid it. And if the company ceases trading, you may lose it all!
Get multiple quotes
If you’re purchasing blinds for the first time, it can be useful to get multiple quotes. That way you can get an idea of the price ranges, and the type of options out there. Asking lots of questions is good, as a quality company will only be too happy to answer them.
